EQF Reference Framework

EQF Level Structure

Mediterranean International University aligns its qualification structure with the principles of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), an internationally recognized reference framework for comparing learning outcomes across educational systems.

The EQF is an internationally recognized reference framework designed to compare and translate learning outcomes and qualifications across different education systems. The university applies competency‑based assessment methods to evaluate learners and align academic recognition with EQF learning outcome levels.

EQF Level 5

Advanced Diploma / Professional Diploma

Demonstrates specialized knowledge and the ability to apply practical skills in professional contexts.

Knowledge

Comprehensive, specialized, factual and theoretical knowledge within a field of work or study, with an awareness of the boundaries of that knowledge.

Skills

A comprehensive range of cognitive and practical skills required to develop creative solutions to abstract problems.

Competence

Exercise management and supervision in contexts of work or study activities where there is unpredictable change. Review and develop performance of self and others.

EQF Level 6

Bachelor Equivalent Qualification

Demonstrates advanced knowledge, analytical thinking, and the ability to solve complex problems in professional environments.

Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of a field of work or study, involving a critical understanding of theories and principles.

Skills

Advanced skills, demonstrating mastery and innovation, required to solve complex and unpredictable problems in a specialized field.

Competence

Manage complex technical or professional activities or projects, taking responsibility for decision-making in unpredictable work or study contexts.

EQF Level 7

Master Equivalent Qualification

Demonstrates highly specialized knowledge, leadership capacity, and strategic problem‑solving abilities in professional or academic contexts.

Knowledge

Highly specialized knowledge, some of which is at the forefront of knowledge in a field of work or study, as the basis for original thinking and/or research.

Skills

Specialized problem-solving skills required in research and/or innovation in order to develop new knowledge and procedures, and to integrate knowledge from different fields.

Competence

Manage and transform work or study contexts that are complex, unpredictable and require new strategic approaches. Take responsibility for contributing to professional knowledge and practice.

EQF Level 8

Doctorate Equivalent Recognition

Represents the highest level of professional or research‑based competence, including innovation, leadership, and advanced knowledge development.

Knowledge

Knowledge at the most advanced frontier of a field of work or study and at the interface between fields.

Skills

The most advanced and specialized skills and techniques, including synthesis and evaluation, required to solve critical problems in research and/or innovation.

Competence

Demonstrate substantial authority, innovation, autonomy, scholarly and professional integrity and sustained commitment to the development of new ideas or processes at the forefront of work or study contexts.

How EQF Levels are Applied at MIU

These levels are applied through competency evaluation, professional experience review, and structured academic assessment processes. MIU's assessment team uses the EQF descriptors as reference points when evaluating candidate portfolios and professional histories.

The alignment with EQF supports transparency and international recognition of MIU qualifications, enabling graduates and certificate holders to communicate the value of their credentials to employers and institutions worldwide.
